On the celebration of Victory Day in Jakarta

Reception on the occasion of the 69th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941 - 1945) was held in the Russian Ambassador's Residence in Jakarta on May 9, 2014.

H.E. Mr. Mikhail Y.Galuzin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia congratulated those present on the occasion of this holiday having noted that the generation which fought in the Great Patriotic War has committed a great feat by defeating Nazism and winning the right for the peoples of the Soviet Union to be free and independent, to have the ability to make the sovereign choice for further development. H.E. Mr. Mikhail Y.Galuzin noted that 2014 is a special year because it is marked by several momentous and anniversaries – 70 years of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders, 70 years of breaking the Leningrad siege and 70 years of liberation of the Crimea.

The Ambassador also expressed concern about the processes which are going on at the present time in Ukraine, which reminds the 1930s in Europe when the Nazis began to raise its head. It was stressed that the current situation in the country neigbouring with Russia became possible because powers in Kiev were captured in a result of the coup d'etat by radical-extremist minority, who had won temporary, while most Ukrainians want peace and tranquility in the country.

The reception was attended by H.E. Mr. T.Karaev, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mrs. A.Aghadjanian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Mr. V.Lopato-Zagorsky, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, H.E. Mr. A.Orazbay, Ambassdor of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Sh.Jamolov, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as employees of the Russian Embassy and Diplomatic Missions of the CIS countries and the Russian representative offices in Jakarta.

Laureate of the Russian Romance International Competition "Romansiada" K.Lazunina, Honored Artist of the Republic of Crimea L.Osmanova and Laureate of a number of all-Russian and international competitions, soloist of the Belgorod Philharmonic, the accordionist G.Pankratov performed songs of the war period in front of the guests.

On May 10, 2014 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Jakarta there was held a Gala Concert on the occasion of the 69th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. H.E. Mr. Mikhail Y.Galuzin delivered his welcoming remarks.

Among the present were H.E. Mr. S.Michev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria, representatives of the Embassies of the Republic of Belarus, of the Republic of Azerbaijan, of the Republic of Colombia, Russian compatriots, members of the Alumni Association of Russian Universities "Insan Science" and the Association for Friendship with Russia, representatives of the Indonesian public.

Series of activities dedicated to the Victory Day held by the School of the Russian Embassy in Jakarta ended with the musical concert conducted on May 7, 2014 at the club of the Russian Embassy's residential complex. Among the guests there were Russian diplomats, staff of the Embassies of the CIS countries, as well as Indonesian students studying Russian language. During the concert "The Bells of Memory" poems and songs of the war period were performed. The event ended with a Minute of Silence to commemorate the heroes parished in the Great Patriotic War, defenders of the Motherland.
