RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR VISITED ACEH PROVINCE

On February 20-22 Russian Ambassador Lyudmila Vorobieva together with Military, Naval and Air Attache to the Embassy Sergey Zhevnovatyy visited Aceh Province to conduct a commemoration ceremony on the Russian sailor’s grave Sergey Khokhlov in the cemetery in Sabang (Weh island).

During the event the opening ceremony of the Orthodox cross installed before on the grave took place. Father Ilya Melnichenko also led a service.

Historical background: lieutenant of the battleship “Poltava” Sergey Khokhlov died due to the fatal accident on February 27, 1901 during the squadron passage of the Russian Empire’s ship from Kronstadt to the Pacific Ocean.
